About

My name is Kristin Charalambidis. I’m a New Jersey licensed professional counselor, author, and host of the mental health podcast Out is Through: Personal Experiences and Therapy Soundbites.

I began my work in the field interning with non-residential domestic violence counseling clients at various stages of leaving their abusive relationships…which was exactly the baptism by fire it sounds like and remains one of my most rewarding, life-changing experiences to date as I remain passionate about helping people heal from trauma.

Then I spent four years working in co-occurring substance abuse and mental health treatment at various levels of care (though the bulk of my time was spent in residential treatment) where I discovered a passion for working with the reentry community from a trauma-informed care approach. I then spent the next two years before branching out on my own in the outpatient world providing counseling to individuals, youth, families, and couples in a small Medicaid-based agency where I had the opportunity to work with a diverse variety of family and relationship issues and worked with several LGBTQ+ adolescents and young adults, many of whom I was fortunate enough to be able to provide with an emotionally safe space of unconditional acceptance that may have been lacking in other areas of their lives.

I’m a big believer in the human capacity for growth, change, and redemption, and I show up to sessions as my authentic, unfiltered self and strive to create an environment of unconditional positive regard, non-judgment, and emotional safety in hopes that my clients will feel comfortable and encouraged to do the same so that we can work together most optimally in service of their growth. I am committed to helping guide each and every one one of my clients on a journey that will hopefully help free them from whatever may be weighing them down so that they can live their lives to their fullest potential.
